I remember unrolling several rolls of toilet tissue and stuffing my sweatshirt with it to make a pillow to lay on. Then someone broke the wood on the door of the Student Affairs office and I said, "Ummmm maybe it's time to be out!" I stayed for tw...

About Me:
I don't know why I'm about to say all of this, but I do know that He turns your mess into a message, and your test into a testimony, so forgive me if I go on.

Just a regular ole sinner, saved by grace. While I wasn't too popular at K-state, I was and am blessed in so many ways and to God be the glory. I use to live two lives at K-state, and depending on your proclivities (lol... I said "proclivities") you may have met the "kick'n-it-every-day, weed smokin, money havin wanna-be playa" or you would have met the Dean's list, in the library every evening, SGA officer, paddle making, head of the class Alpha." Same ole me, just depended on what time of the day you caught me or how close to the weekend it was. I remember most times while everyone else was getting ready to go to the basketball game at Belle or Exum, Me and some associates were probably on a helicopter some where flying to another city just to kick it, or shop. Yep, we kick'd it like that. I was blessed that God didn't let me take it too far though. Ya see, money allows you access to all kinds of sin and it can corrupt a brother. I learned that sin always says "Hey, come with me up the street just a little ways..." and before you know it you're in a whole other town. With sin, you always stay longer than you planned to stay, and pay more than you planned to pay. You fill in the blanks. I was out thuuuurrr...

Even so, I was blessed to stay in the books and get my degree, so when all the lucrative trips out of town came to an end, I still had a leg to stand on. I didn't realize it then, but God was showing me much grace and mercy. (Grace=Getting what you don't deserve. Mercy=Not getting what you do deserve.) Some of my buddies weren't so fortunate.

Once I got to Atlanta, I still wanted to live like I had nothing to live for, but the good lord changed that too.(rather quickly) Enter: Austin Tyler Hughes. (He's 8 now) My one and only son who quickly grounded me. I had to grow up then. The next few years brought, marriage, divorce, forclosure, child support, visitation, lack, wanting, court, unemployment, move after move, and job after job. Until I was sitting in my apartment after the gas and electric just got shut off, on March the 5th 2005 when I realized that I was totally dependent on myself, and it was killing me. On that date, I gave my life to the Lord for real and he began to change me from the inside out. Thank you that he is not like man, He cannot lie. Now, I keep the faith, I will fight the good fight, and finish this journey well having done what HE set out for me to do as a Man of God, husband (I love my wife) and father. I try not to just talk about it, but I try to live about it. After all, in the end, He will say "Well done my good and faithful servant" Not "Well SAID my good and faithful servant."

Let's be real. When it's all said and done, there is usually much more said, than done anyway, right!

I now travel to Africa yearly to serve the Lord in bush of West Africa where babies die for lack of a bottle of lotion to sooth their poison ivy rash. I extend His love in daily ministry as well. If you're ever in Atlanta and would like to assist, look me up any Saturday at His Love Extended, New life community center in Decatur. There are plenty of us right here at home that could use a hand. I mean, no man can feel like a human if he hasn't had a shower in weeks or instead of shoes, he has ductape wrapping his feet. You'll find me cutting hair, clothing and feeding families, preaching the word of God, and anything else I can do for the least of these. Because there, but for the Grace of God, go I.

If we are the "Body of Christ", then why aren't his hands reaching, and his feet going, and his voice speaking to those things that he would have us do?

It's 2009 folks, time to stop telling God how big your mountains are, and start telling your mountains how big your God is.

Hello, Scott!

Thank you for the memory - I was trying to connect exactly how I knew you and it was through Lemar. I remember Lemar. How is he? Also, I think you remember my friend Dionne White??? It is amazing how God has blessed us so that we can also be a blessing to others. We do know what matters most is what we do to help someone else along the way. Again, I commend you for making the transformation and your efforts to reach out to so many people. I am PROUD. May God continue to bless you and yours.

Hey Scott. I'm not sure if you remember me, but it's "Shaka" Shaun from Detroit. I was moved by your personal testimony and glad to hear of your transformation. It is inspiring. God is looking for folks who will serve Him in spirit and in truth. We must proclaim the wondrous works of God with holy boldness and you did just that! I'm delighted to hear of the awesome mission work you are doing on the battlefield. I, too, hope to get moved involved in this type of ministry. Keep up the good work! Hope to see you at Homecoming and God Bless you and your family.

Maaaaan Scott. That takes a lot of courage to put a message out like that in a public forum, but God bless you for it. I always thought you were good dude, but man it seems like everything in your life is where it should be now. I'm really proud of you for all that you have done, especially the things you are doing in regard to mission work. Take care, and maybe I will see you at Homecoming 09. All the best.

Sands, I'm glad to see you've found your way. Bless you brother! I enjoyed reading your summary of your life's travel...we can all take a page from your book in our own ways. All is well here in Indy..me, Roxanne (12 years and counting) and Nicole (2yrs). Maybe I'll see you at HC or in Alanta. Peace.
