Just got word that Coach Farrier was fired. I'm not sure when but the 2009 season starts soon. Lets hope the boys can win despite the KSU controversy.

We have had some great athletes to wear the green and gold. We have come from across the country no matter how you got there, I trust it was an experience I know you will treasure. While there may be school with more prestige and the Thorobreds may not play for a national championship, but that "place in Frankfort up on a hill" high quality teams and indiviuals. This is a call for all to be true to "Thorobred for LIfe" slogan. Where ever you may be, please search for potential student athletes the can help rebuild our athletic programs. I am asking each athlete to referr or at least identify 1 student athlete that could contirbute to benefit from the Kentucky State University experience. DONT JUST READ THIS ACT ON IT.

Preciate the love and respect you show us but I must say that all of my brothers that put on that GREEN and GOLD paved the way for us to do what we did! I played in a Black College All American game in Orlando in 1998 with Cletidus Hunt and Travis Hardin. When we were there, all the other guys could talk about was that win in the Pioneer Bowl! From that, I knew that we were on the map!

Man....... When you guys won those rings it was as if a burden was lifted off of my shoulders.... I was tired of the stereotype, that K-State football had..... I feel you, on the tricks that were told to guys, to get them to come play ball and all the broken promises made. They did promise a lot of us the world to get us to come there, but once you got there the love you had for the game and your teammates MADE you stay. It felt so good to see you guys win the SIAC and the Pioneer Bowl. I can remember going to play in All-Star games, and running into guys that played at other schools, and having to go back and forth with them about our losing record, but the when we put those pads on it was a different story! I would have definitely traded post season and pre-season honors to be a part of a winning program. I guess thats why I the love I have for the program, is so strong. I feel you Ray... I think back on my years at the program and really does bring a tears to my eyes.... I lost three teammates, and had to endure a a gang of issues.
What you guys did is set the tone, and really put RESPECT back in the program.... and for that I take my hat off to you guys.... Yall, did ya thang.........

I will say this, just to draw a distinction. During the "Smalls Era" we didn't have new uniforms or many scholarships. I can remember guys coming into our program being promised scholarships....there weren't many given at all. We had guys that were determined to make a name for K-State by any means necessary. The depth of our talent and the quality of second team was just a good as the first team. We dealt with just as many issues as any era coming through Kentucky State. There was no reason for all of us to stay together other than the fact that winning wasn't an option. Our focus on winning overcame our personal issues such as scholarships. Kentucky State will never see that kind of talent ever again especially the number of non-scholarship starters. In our case, a scholarship wasn't a representaion of our talent pool. There were guys on scholarship that couldn't ball at all. I think one thing we can all agree on is that we made it happen with limited resources....just like every other team at K-State.....we came in fighting an uphill battle. The majority of our guys were tricked into coming there. We were told lies about scholarship offers etc. I can go on and on about that but I'll have to write a book ya dig! Now just to state the facts....Our team ranked in the nation three years straight in either total defense rushing, passing, or both (1995). Our secondary led the nation in interceptions as well (1997). Sacks were an ongoing thing three years straight. We had a few 1000 yard recievers as well as running backs. I was at linebacker and had five sacks in 1997 due to blitzes and my tenacious defensive line. We also had many guys represent the university as All- American and All-Conference. The Pioneer bowl was a statement made on our behalf to ensure that all our efforts and would never be forgotten. No matter what era you came from, we accepted our rings for everyone who ever attended Kentuck State University as a footbal player. What made it happen with a 7-4 record. If you were a thorobred, your family. My immediate family is the guys that I can vouge for during the "Smalls" era. This is for all of you guys....Offense and Defense. "Go Breds!"

Ok...... I agree the Smalls era had talent, you guys had coaching..... Uniforms, etc... We made it happen with nothin! Our defensive secondary led the nation in interceptions with 31 through 10 games. (Nationally Ranked) But talent wise, I can remember guys transferring from UK and other D-1's that couldnt even touch the field. So most talent through Frankfort is a Big statement, we simply did'nt have organization or structure. Talent definitely was not the problem!

Hey fellas, let me be the first to say THANK YOU! I can relate a lil bit because we were worth soooo much more than what we got but compared to your war stories, we were SPOILED!

I played in the during the Head/James eras. I know exactly how you feel. I look back on some of the things we went through back then and I can laugh at some of that stuff now, but at the time it was crazy. The donated turf shoes from UK that we spatted so the blue wouldn't show, the cutaways on the track, getting up a 3:45 in the morning, the Sunday morning runs after just getting off of the bus from a long road trip to NC or Florida, eating sack lunches on road trips instead of eating at a restaurant. Those were the days!!
