Kentucky State

Hello everyone,

Many alumni my age are not working in the alumni. It's all good though we could really use your incite to help make KSU better. Homecoming seems to keep people our age in the lobby at the hotel. We tried to have Tate dee-jay in which 40 people came in at 1:53 a.m. when he stopped spinning at 2. So that didn't work. What is it you need and want for homecoming? How can we make homecoming live again? What can get people out of the lobby so we can pay for the event's that are going on? Everything costs money. I understand our standing in the lobby thing but what can we do to make our homecoming live... The 40 to 60 year olds had a ball. They paid to go into their party and danced and kicked it. 1:53 a.m. ladies and gents.

You may not have known. If that was the case we need to know that. What is it you want??? What ideas do you have that can make homecoming more exciting for more of us? What can we do to make Homecoming more exciting?
If you only want to stand in the lobby and drink all night do you want decorations or some kind of dee jay out in the lobby? What would make your experience more enjoyable? Options? etc... Please respond. I only have 2 weeks. I need your ideas so I can present them to the board. Thanks. K

I want to just chill in a place where we can all just relax and reminisce on the good/bad and ugly times at KSU. Something like in the multipurpose room, etc. It doesn't have to be big or "catered", simply a place where we can come and go.

I understand that change comes hard for a lot of us...but I dont know when sitting on the stairs of ANY place became the thing to do. I dont mind mingling in the lobby, since we have yet to be successful in gathering anywhere else, but please allow people to pass through with ease and get of the steps. That is my 2 cents and that is probably all its worth.

How does a live jazz band in the lobby sound. I think this would be great and it still gives everyone an opportunity to socialize in a familiar setting.

I wanted to do a comedy jam with old school artist late Friday Night on campus. How does this sound. Do a lot of people arrive on Friday?

What about a talent showcase featuring talent from the different eras?

Not a bad idea, along with the live band / entertainment in the lobby or one of the ballrooms....performers could be alumni or current students, willing to volunteer their time and talent !!

If you are tired of being put out of the lobby of the Capital Plaza. There is an alternative.

I have rooms at the Hampton Inn, Days Inn and the American Best Inn for HOMECOMING. OCT-16-17. There is also $35.00 Stimulus Package that includes Fish Fry, Pig Roast, Tailgate and complimentary T-Shirt.

I feel the amount of revenue we pump into the hotel they should have the red carpet layed out for homecoming. I dont mind mingling in the lobby, but that's not an ideal weekend for me. We could have a jazz set in an area that's not in the lobby that would be grand. Get a good DJ that and keep the room opened until at least 3 am. I like the fri. night comedy or concert in the Exum bldg as well but it has to be someone that you want to pay and see. I dont understand why the hotel ballroom is closed on fri. There is enough people in town that would keep it poppin in both places.

Thank you guys for the ideas. I apologize for not responding back. Your responses were later and I couldn't get them to the committee in July but they are great ideas and hopefully next year these can be implimented. There is a concert of some sort scheduled but I have no idea who is coming. I wanted to let you know that we need you guys to work with us. I know there is a separation between us and them. Meaning old and young. The main concern is people our age are not willing to sacrifice time and effort for these events to go over.

I want to mention to those of us that mentioned donation of time. If I were a banker and worked as a piano player, my playing maybe a bit different. I may not have a problem with playing for free. But when that is what I do for a living, free is lack of income. An accountant that doesn't accounting for free doesn't get paid. I hope this makes sense.

I hope to have some answers for you as to what is happening this homecoming. Be blessed.
