Do You Remember? HUME HALL SIT-IN!

I've been thinking about some of the crazy things I did when I was at K-State. The most recent memory that has made me laugh to no end was (I believe the yr was 1992 ) when the SGA lead a sit-in at Hume Hall. It was during Homecoming and we decided to take a stand for Dr Wolfe because he was getting fired.

The funniest memory during that sit-in was when Shawnta' McDougle and I was trying to jump into window to join the sit-in. Calvin was trying his hardest to pull us up! Yes, he succeeded!

I also remember Flo telling Shawnta' and I that we were crazy if we thought she was going to jump her big *&^ (we all know Flo!) in a window and miss Homecoming!

The crazy part was, after climbing in a small window, sleeping on a cold floor for a couple of nights, marching around in circle in front of Bradford Hall (with some “sit-in organizers” from Morehouse College), being threatened of getting kicked out of school, and missing Homecoming that year and Dr Wolfe resigned that Monday thereafter!

It was a crazy weekend, but I wouldn’t change those times for nothing! Does anyone else remember that event? Where is Calvin?

Yes that was the craziest homecoming weekend and the most radical I ever saw students react to something we belived in.

Yes maam, that was the real deal. I was a freshman or sophomore, and I was Miss Alpha Angel Club in Juanita Allen's Coronation. I had to be pulled out from a window in the Student Affairs office, so that I could attend Coronation that night. Then Mrs. Gibson tried to put half of us on "social probation" for the semester. What messed me up was that I was a work study student for Student Affairs, so I basically told on myself. We had some great times at KSU.

Now you know I had to reply to this! I have the newspaper clippings of the event. I learned a lot about the political game from this process that my mind is still reflecting on it after all these years. I remember especially the following:

Chillin' in Pres. Wolfe's office watching CNN showing the Anita Hill/Clarence Thomas hearings. Being supplied with good food, Howard University coming to KState to support us, and soooo much more.

I could go on for hours about that whole weekend! But shouts to: Kecia Stone, Big Tate, Lil Tate, Calvin, and so many others during that time! Shout this out y'all!

I remember this like yesterday....I was on the football team, and they told us if participated in the sit in, we could lose our scholarship...so we stayed outside and kicked it on the yard...those were the days!

I remember this. I look back on it now and wonder we should have held out longer. It was crazy , but I would do it again.

I remember the sit in too...was my Freshman year...cause I climbed my bad a$$ through the window with Rhonda Stone (my girlfriend at the time), and Calvin (Kappa) and Keisha Stone helped us through the window....only to get in there and see people sittin along the floors lookin spooked....needless to say....I only lasted about 2 hours because I heard the threat of being expelled...so we climbed our buts back outta that window. It was my first exposure as well to a maningful cause...I felt militant...powerful at least for the moments leading up to my bravery to join the sit in...

I remember unrolling several rolls of toilet tissue and stuffing my sweatshirt with it to make a pillow to lay on. Then someone broke the wood on the door of the Student Affairs office and I said, "Ummmm maybe it's time to be out!" I stayed for two days, but then it was time for the stepshow so I had to bounce...lol
